Bill Harmon of Durham, outdoor columnist for the Marion County Record, has been accepted into active membership of the Outdoor Writers Association of America.

Leo Waner, son of George and Pat Waner of Marion, has been named comptroller of the Tenneco Gas Pipeline Group, headquartered at Houston, Texas.

Student of the Month for December at Marion High School is Tina Holub, daughter of Mike and Pauline Holub of rural Marion.

Stone City Café opened Dec. 7 in downtown Marion, and is experiencing good response from the public. Debbie Cook and her mother, Donna Boone, mother-daughter team, have a wide background of experience. They worked at Brown’s Grill in Wichita for 10 and five years, respectively.

Randy Crawford has “ideal duty” this month in the United States Marine Corps. A member of the Presidential Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., Crawford has been assigned to his hometown, Marion, Kansas, for 30 days recruiting duty during the Christmas holiday season.

John Stika of Centre High School has been selected to play in the 1989 east-west Shrine Bowl classic football game. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stika of Lincolnville.
