Mike Moran has been teaching guitar to first grader Oliver Good for the past year or so. When Moran had a day off, Monday, the two decided to perform for the first-grade classes at Bown-Corby School. They are pictured as Good strums away on a baritone ukulele, which Moran says sounds much like a regular guitar but has only four strings.

Leonard Jirak, a native of Tampa, has been presented with the Wildlife Conservationist award given by the Kansas chapter of the National Wildlife Federation. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jirak of Tampa, he has been a District Fisheries Biologist for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks since 1983.

Chris Sprowls was selected by Marion High School faculty as the “Student of the Month” for February. He is the son of Bob and Kathy Sprowls of Marion County Lake.

Patients at St. Luke Hospital will no longer be limited to using a “traveling phone.” Each room now has its own private telephone. The new AT&T system was installed Feb. 13 and was purchased in memory of the late John Crofoot.
