City of Marion commissioners met with representatives from two engineering firms Monday afternoon to hear information about community block grant applications. The city is considering construction of a new fire station. Discussion centered on two locations — alongside the ambulance garage and city police department and on the lot of the former Santa Fe Depot.

Marion is losing its only combination private club/restaurant and gaining a Mexican restaurant. Luna’s Mexican Restaurant is scheduled to open this week at the former site of Scandals, a private club. Ernie and Bev Luna, Hillsboro, have a one-year lease with an option to buy the building.

Dave’s IGA bowlers took first in the team event of the 28th annual handicap tournament completed this weekend at MarBowl Lanes. First place singles winner was Randy Kahns. The team of Mark Jones and Casey Case took first in the doubles event. First place bowler in the all events category was Joe Draper.

Members of MHS Class of 1939 met at the Harold Keazer home to plan a reunion on Old Settlers’ Day in observance of the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Classmates present were Ruth Jo Penner, Annie Jean Winkley, Claudine Hunt, Ed Sandwell, Clinton Seifert, Peggy Thies, Henry Murray and Janet Keazer.
