Work began July 9 and Marion Elementary School is closed up tight. Fans and blowers jut from walls and roof, doors are shut and locked, and a large trailer is attached to the building at one entrance. Warning signs abound for asbestos is on its way out.

Centre High School football players David Schneider and Trey Pontious will be featured players on the North squad at the fourth annual Kansas Eight-Man All-Star game Saturday in Beloit. CHS coach Bud Peterson is coach of the North team.

Marion police officer Harvey Sanders graduated June 23 from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, Hutchinson. Sanders was rated “expert” in firearms, as one of the top qualifiers in his class.

Suzanne Thole is pictured as she instructs a group of children on insect life during a summer youth activities program Thursday at Central Park. The youth program may become part of each summer’s calendar of events in the future.

It won’t be long until the amphitheater stage on the south slope of Luta Creek’s crossing alongside Central Park is completed. Triple H Construction, Marion, is the contractor for the 20x30-foot stage. Built of concrete, it has holes ready to accept removable backdrops. Estimated cost of the project is about $4,100.
