Memorial gaslights along the Central Park nature trail were installed this week by Greeley Gas Co. Paid for by donations, most of the 15 lights are installed as memorials. The lights create an attractive border to the park, light the trail, which was constructed by Marion Lions and Kiwanis clubs, and also illuminate picnic tables and the south portion of the park, which previously was waste area.

Dr. Edward Hett, a native of Marion, has been selected as president-elect of the medical staff at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. A graduate of Marion High School, he is the son of John and Kathryn Hett of rural Marion.

D and D Discount Furniture is scheduled to open Friday in Marion’s downtown business district. Located at 126 E. Main, the full line furniture store will feature mostly new and some used furniture.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ames and Theodora Koslowsky of Hallett Materials are pictured as they help serve during the second annual Farmers Appreciation Day on Saturday. Pork barbecue was served to more than 400 people. The event is jointly sponsored each year by Hallett Materials and Lynn’s Farm Equipment.

A foundation is being created to help fund expansion projects at St. Luke Hospital, Marion County Hospital District No. 1 board of directors announced at Thursday’s monthly board meeting.
