Mayor Gerry Harris told members of the Marion City Library board Monday afternoon that the library would be able to expand into space now occupied for the city commission. The commission room could be moved to the area of the present fire station and fire trucks and equipment will be moved to the new fire station, now under construction.

A special meeting of the Board of Education of Marion Unified School District will be held Monday. The meeting involves purchase of property directly east of Marion High School. Part of the location will probably be used for off-street parking with the rest available for expansion or another building.

James and Marlene Koslowsky of Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, announce the birth of their first child, Peter James, on Jan. 13. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Koslowsky of Marion.

The Marion freshman girls’ basketball team won the Peabody freshman tournament Saturday, defeating Peabody and Remington. Top scorers in the Peabody game were Lisa Harbison and Amanda Janzen, 9, Amy Christensen, 7. Leading scorers in the Remington game were Kris Groening, 12, Janzen, 10, Traci Darrow, 8, Ashley Loomis, 5, Christensen, 2.

Robert Stephan, Kansas attorney general, will speak at Marion Senior Center Feb. 1. His topic will be on consumer protection and personal protection for older adults.
