City of Marion commissioners viewed a video Monday prepared by the Standards Board and Marion Chamber of Commerce beautification committee. The 37-minute video showed dozens of properties in Marion that appeared to be blighted or substandard. The property shown was located all over town, not just in one area.
Maudie Vinduska, Lenora Klose, and Edith Loveless, members of the VFW Auxiliary are pictured as they present new American flags to Fire Chief Merle Bruner and police officer Bob Soyez. The flags will fly over the new fire station and will replace the present flag at the police station.
The Marion girls’ basketball team became co-champions of the Cottonwood Valley League with Friday’s win over Sacred Heart. The Warriors, 13-7, tied Council Grove for league bragging rights.
First place winner in the team event at the 29th annual Marion Men’s Bowling Association tournament was Videos & More. Team members are Tom Schaffer, Mike Carroll, Carl Wolf, Don Creamer, and Gene Schaffer. Top scorers in the doubles event were Mike Carroll and Don Creamer. Nathan Smith took top singles and all events honors.
Michael Ottensmeier has been named “Airman of the Year” for the 20th Security Police Group where he is stationed in southeast England. The son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ottensmeier of Marion, he is a graduate of Marion High School.
