Groundwork and foundations are underway at Marion Elementary School, where the new physical education building will go up north of the school. Most of the evergreens will be removed, replaced by sidewalks and diagonal parking slots for staff and parents.

Cleo Loomis told Marion Chamber of Commerce members of her recent trip to Africa at the chamber’s regular meeting Friday noon.

Developers of a proposed apartment complex in Marion have asked the city for a change in zoning on some vacant lots on East Main. If the zoning change is approved, the apartment complex will be located just west of Marion Country Club on the south side of East Main.

A six-color screen printer recently was installed at Hoppy Line, Marion. The printer can put six colors on more than 500 T-shirts an hour. Jim Crofoot, Western Associates official, took Marion Kiwanis Club members on a tour of the plant on Monday.

Births announced in this issue were those of Adam Alton Matz, March 18; Alexis Nicole Cain, March 21; and Austin James Bucher, March 22.

An article by contributing writer Margo Yates tells of the hobby of Phyllis Melton, who for almost 40 years has been collecting pie-top designs. She has gathered some 300 index cards with the designs diagrammed inside a circle she has printed on the cards.
