A group of journalists from the Baltic States of Europe will get a taste of life in the Flint Hills of Kansas July 7 when they visit Jim and Joan Donahue’s Clover Cliff Ranch. The visit is part of a project to introduce print journalists from the Baltic States to print journalism in the United States. The few invited guests include Mike O’Neal of the Chase County Leader-News and Bill Meyer of the Marion County Record.

The golden grain of Harvest ’93 has been pouring in since Saturday, with combines and trucks operating between downpours of rain.

Marion “Nick” Nickelson will open Nick’s Building Center July 5 in the former Cash & Carry Lumber (previously the Badger and Mack-Welling yards) and looks forward to serving the public.

The week’s issue contains write-ups of the weddings of Tana Hedstrom and Jeff Riffel on May 1 and Sandra Urbanek and Trey Pontius on June 5.

The flag was popular in display windows along Marion’s Main Street this week. A patriotic window, pictured on the front page, was in honor of the upcoming Independence Day weekend and was created by the hairdressers at Unique Designs.

First prize of $200 in the lip-synch contest at Summerfest Saturday evening was awarded to Tena Waner and Sue Klassen, who performed a Reba McIntire song, “It’s Your Call.” Second prize of $100 went to Mike and Heidi Pope and third of $50 to Susan Hoffman and Melissa Robinson.
