Members of the Starfire Dance Company recently took part in national dance competitions in Kansas City and in St. Louis, Missouri, receiving national championship awards in several categories. Area members of the group are Mandy Hanson and Jenny Loveless, Marion; Meggan Silhan, Pilsen; and Tina Ybarra, Lost Springs.

Work began Monday morning to assemble and install new playground equipment at Marion Elementary School.

A variety of photographs, paintings, and Christian Orthodox icons are on display at Butler County Community College’s Main Street office in Marion. The display includes photographs by Tabor College staffer Orley Friesen; oil paintings by Marion attorney Dean Batt; and painting and icons by Jan Isham, who recently moved to Marion.

Rapid Fire, a country and rock band, will perform Saturday as part of Marion Summerfest ’93. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Central Park Stage.

Marion County Commissioner Charles DeForest and others are pictured as they examine the new Marion-based ambulance for Marion County EMS. The ambulance can transport two patients, plus EMTs at the same time. It is state-of-the-art, will have a cellular telephone, and is designed for efficient treatment of the sick and injured.

Julie Sellers of Florence has returned after spending from May 28 to July 31 in the Dominican Republic with a Kansas State University community service program.
