Marion High School marching band was the first unit in the Old Settlers’ Day parade, behind the flags and color guard, proudly playing as they marched in front of a crowd estimated at 8,000 people, including several hundred participating in the annual parade. Overcast skies made way for sunshine as the parade, that lasted 45 minutes, ended.

Six-year-old Rebecca Richmond placed fourth in the national pedal pull championship Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska The daughter of Randy and Ramona Richmond of Marion, she was one of more than 400 competing in a number of age groups.

A bronze plaque in remembrance to the first three pioneer families, who settled in Marion on the site of present-day Central Park, was unveiled Old Settlers’ Day by officers of the Marion Historical Museum.

Principal Jim Giesbrecht of Marion High School has announced that LeAnn Hiebert has been named a commended scholar in the 1994 National Merit Scholarship program.

Pictured are Sister Clarita, Sister Marcelina, and Sister Scholastica, who formerly served on the staff of St Luke Hospital when it was opened and operated by Adorers of the Blood of Christ. The sisters returned for the open house and dedication ceremony Sunday afternoon showcasing the completion of construction at St. Luke Living Center.
