Pictured on the front page are Herman and Iva Unruh who are in one of the five groups of volunteer seniors in Marion responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the memorial gas lamps along the nature trail in Central Park.

The “unidentified man” who bid $30 for one of the cherry pies auctioned during the afternoon program in Central Park on Old Settlers’ Day was Warren Hayen, Marion High School Class of 1948.

The October display at Butler County Community College in Marion features hand-woven chairs by L.Dena Goertz, miniature pot-bellied stoves collected by Helen Reznicek, and taxidermist mountings by Autumn Ross.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital during the month of September were Alexander Michael Birchmeier, born Sept. 11 and Paul Anthony Gutsch, born Sept. 21.

Reports in this issue of Marion High School classes having special anniversaries on Old Settlers’ Day included the class of 1933 (60th); 1943 (50th); 1948 (45th).

Katrina Swan, bride-elect of Justin Griffin, was honored Sept. 18 at a miscellaneous shower at Holy Family Activity Center. Hostesses were Susan Cooper, Faye Makovec, Janet Herzet, Theresa Linton, Shirley Steppe, and Kay Heidebrecht.
