City of Marion commissioners listened on Monday to a well-prepared proposal by developer Doug Sharp, and gave their tentative blessing to his proposal to establish Country Club Heights.

Pictured on the front page of this issue is Macy Hess, small daughter of Bryan and Sherry Hess, as she and her uncle, Bruce Winkler pay a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus Sunday afternoon in downtown Marion.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital during October and November include Scott Henry Jones, born Oct. 10; Marcus Allen Buller, born Nov. 13; and Tiffany Renee Ness, born Nov. 20.

English teacher Kristina Bell has been chosen as Teacher of the Month at Marion High School. Besides teaching English, she also coaches Florence Middle School volleyball, sponsors the junior class, is yearbook sponsor, and is assistant basketball coach at the high school.

Juanita Helmer will retire at the end of the year, after serving 19 years as Deputy Clerk and Court Clerk in the Marion County judicial system.

Marion High School honor students Danielle Longhofer, Nick Voelker, Heather Pope, Melissa Stevens, Ellen Hett, Rebecca Collett, Brad Druse, Laura Hanes, Terese Vinduska and Christian Vogel attended Business Career Day at Emporia State University.
