Marci Penner, co-founder of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, was featured speaker at the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce membership dinner held Monday night at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Jodi Smith has been selected as student of the month for January by the Marion High School faculty. She is the daughter of Jerry and Lois Smith of Marion.

Centre High School winter homecoming candidates are Danelle Hanschu, Cecily Carlson, Jeannea Falen, Jill Brunner, Mike Evancho, Luke Utting, Spencer Hedstrom and Jake Tindle. Homecoming ceremonies are set for 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Florence Middle School and Marion Elementary School have selected Carrie Darrow as FMS spelling champion. Steven Waner placed first at the MES competition. They will represent their schools in the Feb. 8 Marion County Spelling Bee.

Tara Abbott, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Caleb Abbott of Marion, has joined the Grant Thornton accounting and management consultant office at Wichita. She will be a staff accountant.
