2 big wins not enough for Warriors

Strong performances by Anne Baliel and Todd Palic weren’t enough to propel Marion beyond last place in the six-team Central Kansas Track League meet for which it played host Tuesday.

Baliel won the girls’ pole vault by a margin 2½ feet, and Palic’s discus throw was more than three feet better than his nearest competitor’s.

Other girls scoring points for Marion at the meet were McKinnon Waner, third in shotput, fourth in discus, and fifth in javelin; Amber Miller, fourth in triple jump; and Gabby Newell, fourth in 100-meter hurdles and sixth in 300-meter hurdles.

The boys only other points came from a fourth-place finish by a 4x100-meter relay team of Gabe Hasenbeck, De Smith, Dominic Miller, and Noah Slater.

Inman captured the girls’ team title. Halstead captured the boys’ title.

Hillsboro and Goessel fared better in their Tuesday CKTL meet at Hillsboro.

The host Trojans finished third among six teams for both girls and boys. Goessel finished fourth among boys’ teams and fifth among girls’ teams.

The Trojans had excellent success in the girls and boys shot put with Jessica Saunders and Jared Janzen both earning first-place finishes in shot put and discus throw.

Saunders continued to score points for Hillsboro with a third-place finish in javelin throw and fellow Trojan Cole Kaufmann hurled to score first place.

Hillsboro continued their hot streak in jumping events with girls D’Myia Cox, Sammie Saunders and Kinsey Kleiner earning first, second and third-place respectively. Cox grabbed another first-place finish in triple jump.

The boys did well also with Jamari Harris finishing second in boys long jump and Carson Linnens soaring to first in triple jump.

Goessel high placed well with Jacob Schrag coming in third in boys triple jump.

Moriah Jost snagged a second-place finish for the Trojans in 3200-meter run and another second along with teammate Emersyn Funk in 4x 8000-meter relay.

Funk ran to a first-place finish in 1600-meter run and teammate Ainsley Duell grabbed a second place finish in 800-meter.

Goessel boys Eddie Gaddert and Timothy Schrag took second-place honors in the boys 4x 800-meter relay.

Trojans Tristan Reed and Levi Allen were first and third in boys 1600-meter run.
