2nd generation surgeon arrives
Staff writer
Surgeon Marc Duverseau will begin seeing patients Nov. 18 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.
His arrival coincides with the departure of surgeon Todd Brown, who saw patients in Marion for two years.
Duverseau also sees patients at Newton Medical Center.
Duverseau was born and raised in Haiti. He graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies.
He studied general surgery at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina, where he was administrative chief resident. He also did an internship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Both of Duverseau’s parents were physicians and worked together.
“I was exposed very early to that,” he said.
He grew up seeing his parents saving peoples’ lives and making patients’ lives better.
Duverseau was 14 when he first observed his parents doing surgery together.
“I was mesmerized with that,” he said.
His father was an orthopedic surgeon, and his mother an anesthesiologist.
“Once I found myself in the operating room, it just felt like home,” he said. “I knew it was for me from Day One. Meeting a patient, being able to swiftly enact change that improves their quality of life and watch them walk out of your office happy is what I live for.”
Duverseau will do procedures including hernia repair, gall bladder removal, endoscopies, colonoscopies, and colon procedures. He has been with Newton Medical Center since Aug. 30.
Appointments are being scheduled through NMC Surgical Specialists at (316) 283-0027 or the outreach clinic coordinator at St. Luke, (620) 382-2177, Ext 177.
