Parent Advisory Council members Mary Beth Bowers, Cathy Whitaker, and Barb Longhofer were mainly responsible for the planned activities as students at Marion Elementary School took a walk back through time Friday and participated in activities honoring the 132nd birthday of Kansas.

Brice Durbin, formerly of Burns, retired last week as executive director of the National Federation of State High School Associations, a position he has had for 16 years.

“Beary Special Babies” born during January at St. Luke Hospital include Brianna Lynne Williams, Jan. 4; Jordan Leigh Harper, Jan. 16; Chassidy Lyn Carlson, Jan. 17; Charles Joshua Stuchlik, Jan. 25; and Joshua Paul Omstead, Jan. 29.

Candidates for Centre High School homecoming king and queen are Marilyn Svoboda, Susie Svoboda, Carrie Kahns, Michelle Haden, James Jirak, Russ Mueller, Mark Smith, and David Evancho.

A circular copper wall hanging by Ern Hett recently was added to Kansas Room at Marion City Library. The sculpture, 28 inches in diameter, depicts a windmill, flanked by sheaves of wheat and sunflowers. It was purchased as a memorial to former assistant librarian Donna Cady.

Marion County emergency medical service is seeking donations to help purchase a hydraulic ram. Cost of the ram is $1,730.
