Marci Penner, co-founder of Kansas Sampler Foundation, was featured speaker at the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce membership dinner Monday night at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Jodi Smith has been selected student of the month for January by the Marion High School faculty. Her parents are Jerry and Lois Smith of Marion.

Centre High School winter homecoming candidates are Jill Brunner, Cecily Carlson, Mike Evancho, Jeannea Falen, Danelle Hanschu, Spencer Hedstrom, Jake Tindle, and Luke Utting. Homecoming ceremonies are set for 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Florence Middle School and Marion Elementary School have selected Carrie Darrow as middle school spelling champion. Steven Waner placed first in the elementary school competition. They will represent their schools Feb. 8 at the county spelling bee.

Tara Abbott, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Caleb Abbott of Marion, has joined the Grant Thornton accounting and management consultant office at Wichita. She will be a staff accountant.
