Parents of 43 students attended some or all of their children’s classes Thursday with a goal of getting parents to sit in on a typical school day.

Marion High School parents attended classes while students stayed home, went to their parents’ place of business, or attended class with their parents.

Marion Manor staff members Ann Carr, Cathy Cleeton, Lisa Donahue, and others are pictured as they prepare sack lunches to raise money for the American Heart Association.

About 150 lunches were prepared for local business owners. More than $500 was raised through the project.

Barkman Honey of Hillsboro is continuing to grow and produce jobs in Marion County. The company started in 1960 to pack honey produced in the Barkman family’s bee colonies.

Jared Herzet, son of Jim and Janet Herzet of Marion, is pictured as he signs a letter of intent to play football for Benedictine College of Atchison.

After the first week of competition, Western Associates leads the team event in the 34th annual city bowling tournament with a handicap score of 3,071. Joe Draper leads singles. Doubles leaders are Larry Summers and Bob Risenhoover, with Risenhoover first in an all-events category.
