Forty-four Marion High School seniors received diplomas Sunday at graduation exercises.

Three students — Brendan Krause, Jodi Smith, and Dawn Spencer — had perfect 4.00 grade averages through four years of high school. They were named co-valedictorians.

Outstanding senior boy and girl, selected by the faculty, were Brad Druse and Kay Lynn Summervill.

Hillsboro will celebrate its 24th Folk Festival with a variety of events. The festival will begin Friday evening with a carnival and conclude Monday with a picnic in the park.

Brendan Kraus and Katrina Hancock were named Marion High School athletes of the year May 16 at an athletic banquet sponsored by Marion Kiwanis Club.

Albert Steele of Marion, the current top Champagne D’Argent rabbit breeder in the nation, will take his rabbits to Springfield, Nebraska, for the Champagne D’Argent Foundation’s annual national rabbit show Sunday. He hopes to continue his history of success.

Brenden Sager, journalism student at the University of Kansas, is spending the next three months as an intern at the Marion County Record.
