Marion County commissioners agreed Friday to enter negotiations with KC Development of Marion to provide transfer station services for county residents and businesses.

Warren Hinrichs of Spokane, Washington, is pictured as he re-paints flag poles at the post office and courthouse in Marion. Hinrichs has been climbing flag poles for 37 years. His father did it before him. The job is repeated every three years. Hinrichs travels the nation and says he get a “good view of the country” in his work.

Several Marion High School graduates are members of the 1996 Emporia State University football team. They are Bill Griffith, Chuck Maggard, Aaron Reiswig, and Jason Wheeler. Wheeler is projected as a starter in Saturday’s game with Wayne State.

An article by staff writer Rowena Plett tells that Ruth Dohner, resident of the month at Hilltop Manor, is truly an “old settler.”

Born March 6, 1906, at her family’s home in Marion, Ruth is the fourth in a family of four daughters and six sons. She has a son, Ralph; a daughter, Rosalie; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
