Ted Hanschu is the winner of this year’s newspaper subscription contest. His prize is a brand new Victor electronic calculator. Other winners are Mrs. John Spinden of rural Elmdale, a Stebco attache case, and Mrs. Cecil Medley of Tampa, a cabinet of personalized stationery.

The first baby of the year arrived at 2:15 p.m. Jan. 2 at St. Luke Hospital—even though there have been no births at St. Luke Hospital in many months. Little Carrie Koehn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newland Koehn of McPherson, began her appearance as her parents and grandmother were traveling through Marion toward McPherson. Dr. T.C. Ensey performed the delivery at St. Luke.

March 10 has been set as the date for the PRIDE Pacemaker banquet. The Pacemaker award is given to communities which achieve all the PRIDE blue ribbons.

This week’s Personality Profile features Leta Rees, who retired in 1973 after a working life that extended over 47 years.

Square dancing is good exercise and a fun way of spending time with friends, as those participating agree. Jack and Vernie Beaston and Rosse and Janice Case are two of the Marion couples who dance regularly in the healthy and growing club organized by Bud and Jean Pierce.

Weather during the Christmas weekend was very nice and those who had to travel could do so without fear of being caught along the road in a blizzard or ice storm.
