Picnics and summertime go together. Marion and Hillsboro businessmen and their families who attended the Cottonwood Valley Young Farmers and Young Farm Wives picnic Saturday evening in Central Park were treated to a perfect combination of the two.

Kerry Friesen, pictured, is not much larger than the 11¼-pound cantaloupe grown by her grandmother, Mrs. Carl Friesen. Kerry is the youngest person to enter the Produce Derby this season.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Vinduska attended an army reunion Saturday and Sunday at O’Neill, Neb., for trhe4 men who were training personnel at the engineer replacement training center at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., during World War II.

Julie Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ern Hett of rural Marion, has returned from a six-day stay at Estes Park, Colo., where she attended the Christian Artists Music Seminar.

Don Peachey and his popular polka band will be in Pilsen at 9 p.m. Aug. 25 for a one-night stand at the Starlite Ballroom. Peachey’s is one of the most popular polka music groups in Wisconsin.
