For the second year in a row, the Marion County Record has won first place in its division in the Newspaper Typography Awards competition sponsored by Newspaper Editorial Workshop Service of Los Angeles., Calif.

Joseph W. Brigman admitted Friday during a preliminary hearing held in Marion County District Court that he and Michael L. Keffeler went to the farm home of Dennis and Evelyn Armstrong, near Tampa, Aug. 2, 1977, to kill them. The Armstrongs’ bodies were found by their two school-age children when they returned from their first day at school at Lost Springs.

About 70 Chamber of Commerce members enjoyed a picnic in Central Park Friday evening. Ernest Hett and his wife, Lucille, provided the evening’s entertainment with a tour of the Copper Shed at their home east of Aulne.

Plans drawn in 1936 indicated that a 9-hole sand greens golf course was to have been built on the south side of Marion County Lake. The Chat ‘n’ Club, composed of Marion County Lake residents, is initiating efforts to make the 42-year-old dream a reality.
