Junior Bredemeier, city superintendent, reported at the city commission meeting Monday afternoon that the overflow pipe at the old water tower near the high school was damaged by recent high winds. He said the pipe came loose and will be repaired before winter weather arrives.

Twentieth Century Club recently welcomed Lloyd and Ellen Darrow and Marlin and Debbie Buchholz to Marion. The Darrows came from Aulne where they have been in business for a number of years. The Buchholzs moved to Marion from Chicago. Marlin is pharmacist in charge at Marion Professional Pharmacy.

Members of Kiwanis and the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary hosted a covered dish supper in Central Park honoring Girls’ and Boys’ Staters and their parents. Reports on their experiences were given by Patti Fruechting, Margie Kerns, Donna Stovall, Bill Hoch, Rick Richmond, Kevin Wilson, and Doug Heerey.

A story by reporter Mike Heckman tells how Art and Fran Holmes, originally from New England, have moved to Marion. Art, a former interior designer, carefully shapes, sands and paints toys in his workshop. The finished products will be donated to the Salvation Army in Newton or other charitable organizations.
