Western Alfalfa Corporation is planning to sell its alfalfa mill on the northwest edge of Marion at public auction Feb. 14. The mill began operating in the early 1940s under the ownership of the W.J. Small Company of Neodesha. Its closing was announced in the fall of 1977.

Queen of the Courts candidates will be announced between games Friday in Marion Gymnasium when Marion High School will face Chase County. Queen candidates are Janelle Bowers, Annette Nienstedt, and Cindy Bernhardt.

Sally Ferguson Helmer and Roger Hannaford III wish to announce their engagement and approaching marriage. A June 2 wedding is being planned.

Mrs. Marion Ogden has been named chairman of the fund-raising drive for the Marion Heart Association. Ogden announced the following key committee chairmen who will serve in the February campaign: Mrs. Henry Loveless, Mrs. Jack Helmer, Mrs. Gary Loveless, Mrs. Steve Moore and Mrs. Alden Slusser.

The first steps toward installation of weather equipment, a part of Marion’s CATV system, arrived Friday morning and pieces to measure wind velocity and direction were attached to the antenna that afternoon by Harvey Sanders and Junior Bredemeier. Representatives from Utility Consultants were in Marion Saturday to help install other parts of the system.
