A California lemon tree that lived for 18 years in the front window of the Western Auto Store has been given a new home. Leslie and Kathy Lunderman, owners of the store on Marion’s Main Street, have given the seven-foot citrus fruit tree to Sedgwick County Zoo, hoping that it will maintain good health and continue to bear fruit as is has done for most of its years with the Lundermans.
Everybody took time to watch the eclipse of the moon Monday morning. Roger Hannaford, Marion abstracter, prepared a viewer and is pictured as he helps passers-by catch a glimpse of the shrunken sun.
Last week’s warm weather permitted work to proceed on the Rock Island Railway’s bridge over the Cottonwood River southwest of Marion.
Mayor Peggy Blackman was guest speaker Jan. 20 at the Athena Study Club meeting. She spoke about current projects of the Marion City Commission and answered a number of the questions asked by the group.
FFA chapter members at Marion High School took part in an invitational livestock evaluation school last week at Kiowa. Those students involved were Richard Loomis, Sandy Carr, Julie Weigart, John Carr, Kelly Remmers, Mike Richmond, June Bliss, Randy Richmond, Rick Siebert, Rod Just, Brian Bowers, Rolland Fisher, Scott Steward, Steve Gayle, Alan Hett, and Ron Wineinger.
