Marion was the starting and stopping point for a two-day PRIDE Motor Coach Tour that took 36 interested persons to the southeast area of Kansas over Friday and Saturday. Margaret Pickering, Marion PRIDE steering committee chairman, welcomed the group.

Ronald J. Cork has been appointed administrator of St. Luke Hospital and nursing wing by the Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society of America. Cork was accompanied to Marion today by Tom Evert, former administrator at St. Luke.

Janet Hett has won first prize of $5 in the Florence Woman’s Christian Temperance Union’s junior high temperance essay contest. Rochelle Mueller won second prize of $3 and Marty Kroupa won third prize of $2.

First United Presbyterian Church of Marion was the setting for the wedding of Laura Brose and Roger Williams at 7 p.m. March 17.

A wing strut from the ill-fated Fokker trimotor that carried Knute Rockne and seven other men to their deaths in a crash near Bazaar Aug. 31, 1931, is owned by Ernest Meierhoff of Marion. Meierhoff lived near Clements at the time of the crash. He is pictured holding the strut.
