Streets and sewers were the major topics of business at the Monday afternoon meeting of Marion City Commissioners—new streets for the Tanglewood addition and a new sewer plant for the entire town as well as residents at Marion County Lake.

Marty Beaston has completed a 24-month training program in radiologic technology at St. Joseph Medical Center, Wichita. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Beaston of Marion, she has accepted a position at St. Joseph Hospital in Ponca City, Okla., starting Oct. 1.

Kansas will have a heavy harvest of apples this year, both in backyard and commercial orchard production.

Preliminary hearing for Timothy Newfield, 18-year-old former Peabody resident charged in the abduction slaying of Peabody State Bank teller Grant Avery has been scheduled for Sept. 10 and 11 in Marion County District Court.

Marc Smith won the annual Marion Country Club championship golf tournament over the Labor Day weekend. Jim Richmond won the first flight and Jack Summerville took the honors in the second flight.
