Bills for a bridge survey and tentative plans for renovation of the Marion County Jail dominated discussion at Monday’s County Commission meeting.

Marion High School class of 1924 will hold a 55th anniversary reunion Old Settlers’ Day at the Ira Newcomer cabin at Marion County Lake. Others from the classes of the 1920s are invited to come spend the afternoon with them.

Alvina Hoffman is the subject of this week’s “Personality Profile” by Ruth Meyer.

Rev. and Mrs. Vernon Bowers of Alma announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Linda to Randy Deiter, son of Mrs. Jack Deiter of Paxico and the late Mr. Deiter. A November wedding is being planned.

Phyllis Melton was presented as “Woman of the Year,” when Marion Business and Professional Club met for dinner at the Owl Car Café Sept. 10. Leona Meisinger and Nettie Rittel were hostesses.

Evelyn Deines returned Sunday from an eight-week visit with her daughter and husband, SFC and Mrs. John Lymer at Eagle River, Alaska.

Marion Gymnasium rocked on Thursday to the music of Atlantis, a Navy Rock and Roll band based at Memphis, Tennessee. It was Atlantis’ second invasion of Marion High School. The band—featuring different players—performed last year, too.
