Good news dominated the Marion City Commission meeting Monday afternoon when Mayor Peggy Blackman announced that the federal government has approved a portion of the town’s pre-application for a community development grant.

Greg Bowers, agricultural representative at Farmers and Drovers National Bank, has been promoted to assistant vice president. The announcement was made by Bob Brooks, executive vice president.

A steering committee organized Monday morning to look into the possibilities of having a center for senior citizens in Marion.

Jackie Richmond was crowned 1980 Marion High School Queen of Courts before the homecoming game on Friday. Her escort was Warriors senior forward Doug Webb. Senior forward Kevin McGahee and senior guard Brian Allen escorted the queen’s attendants, Janice Wiens and Lori Hett.

Idaho Gov. John V. Evans has announced the appointment of Pat Costello, 30-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Costello of Marion, as chief counsel of energy committee. Costello is a 1967 graduate of Marion High School, a 1971 graduate of the University of Kansas, and a 1976 graduate of the Boston University School of Law. He resides in Boise, Idaho.
