Mayor Peggy Blackman has been notified that two officials from the Housing and Urban Development office in Kansas City will present a $300,000 grant to her Thursday. The grant will fund new water mains in portions of the valley area and up to the water tower near the high school. Many of the old lines are nearly a century old.

Kansas Bluegrass Association will sponsor “Bluegrass in the Park” during the weekend of June 6 through 8 at Marion County Lake. Continuous jam sessions are to be the order of the day, for all three days.

Mrs. Don Kelsey of Marion announces the engagement of her daughter, Lori, to Kevin Fruechting, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Fruechting, rural Marion. The wedding date has been set for Aug. 19.

Mrs. Louis Kaiser and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kaiser, David and Angela of Lincolnville had dinner “out” Sunday in observance of the 100th year of the existence of their farm.

John Blaise Klenda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Klenda of Marion, was awarded a law degree this week at Washburn University in Topeka. His wife, Pam, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Griffith of Marion.

Jack Hartman, head basketball coach at Kansas State University, spoke to a crowd of more than 200 May 13 at the annual athletic awards banquet in Marion Gymnasium.
