The third annual Marion Chamber of Commerce July Jamboree will be Saturday. There will be a carnival atmosphere on Main Street with games, refreshments, and bargains galore, a fun day for the whole family.

Dane Christensen, 9, has been selected as this week’s Marion County Record player of the week. A member of the Lynn’s Farm Equipment Pee Wee team, he hit a home run, a double and a single, scored three runs, and drove in three. Mr. and Mrs. John Christensen are his parents.

Three Marion High School girls have entered the Herington Junior Miss competition. Gena Helmer, Jan Nuss, and Kim Schaffer were among early entries The winner will advance to a state pageant in October.

The Meierhoff garden in Jex Addition is one of the most productive in town and the envy of less energetic folks, who marvel at the produce Ernie gets from his ground. One reason he has such success, other than effort, is a good supply of water from a windmill-driven well.

Two Marion High School girls, Jamie Shirley and Linda Williams, were voted to the all-star team of 10 at a University of Kansas basketball camp for girls June 29 to July 4. Jamie also won a trophy for outstanding Jayhawk camper, awarded to the player with the best attitude.
