Bud Pierce, Bob Brookens, and Phyllis Melton appeared before the Marion City Commission meeting Tuesday afternoon to ask that consideration be given to downtown revitalization when, or if, new storm sewers are constructed.

Fifty-eight-year-old Hillsboro resident Walt Kleinsasser has logged 7,300 miles since he began running in 1974. His paths include stints in the New York Marathon, the Omaha Marathon and the Dallas White Rock Marathon. He expects to add another six miles later this month during the Old Settlers’ Day Run at Marion County Lake.

This week’s Produce Derby entries include two Hawaiian tomatoes weighing 1¼ and 1¾ pounds, grown by Mrs. Leland Weber; an 80 pound pumpkin grown in their family’s garden in Pilsen and shown by 2-year-old Fred Silhan and his sister Meggan, 4; and two pumpkins, pictured with young Amy Helmer, that measure 18 and 21 inches around. The pumpkins were grown in her parents’ garden in Marion.

Randy Just, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Just and a senior at KSU, has been awarded a $600 scholarship by the Kansas Campers Association.
