Mayors from nine cities of Marion County attended a special meeting in Marion Monday evening to discuss plans for implementing a one-cent sales tax in the county. Marion Mayor Peggy Blackman reported the tax would generate $443,000 in revenues. Half the money would go to the county, and the other half would be divided among cities according to population.

World Impact’s vocational training center near Florence will be dedicated Sept. 12. The center is located south of Cedar Point and west of Cedar Creek. It is operated by World Impact, Inc. of Los Angeles, California.

A luncheon was served at the Harold Hauser residence Saturday noon complimenting Lynn and Carol Colburn, who were married that evening. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. Hauser, Mrs. Earl Wood, and Mrs. John Brose.

Suzanne Thole is pictured as she checks the reading on the 104th pint of blood donated by Erna Mae Yeagley of Marion. Yeagley achieved the 13-gallon mark Friday at the Red Cross blood clinic at Eastmoor church.

Members of the Oz Bicycle Club from Wichita are coming to Marion. They’ll spend the Labor Day weekend here, taking tours of the Flint Hills area and enjoying local hospitality. Cyclists will sleep in the gymnasium while in Marion.

Edward J. Costello of Marion has been appointed by Gov. John Carlin to a three-year term on the State Banking Board.
