Freight and ticket service from Continental Trailways through Marion has been discontinued, according to Jeff Hutchison, owner and operator of Marion Country Inn. Passengers may still board a bus in Marion, but must purchase tickets at Florence.

The fun and health of cycling caught on in full magnitude in Marion over the weekend when 124 members of the Oz Bicycle Club of Wichita set up base. The weekend began with a small breakfast ride, followed by a small parade downtown. They spent the afternoon touring the historic sites of Marion, The Elgin House, Marion County Courthouse, Judge Riggs’ grave, and other noted spots.

Jennifer Nowak of Pilsen is pictured with a giant sunflower seedpod that measures 14.5 inches across. Nowak, 9, says she has been watching the plant grow all summer in her backyard.

Freddy Fudd of KTVH fame will be featured Sunday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church during observance of “Christian Education Sunday.” Fudd, or Henry Harvey, will greet the public at an informal reception following the service.

Irene Ratzloff is pictured with an 11-pound cabbage she entered in the Produce Derby. Grown by her husband, Perry, it comes from their own seed and grew alongside many others weighing seven to eight pounds each.
