Barbara Farley, 51, editor of the Florence Bulletin, has been designated as the choice of the Marion County Republican Central Committee to fill the county clerk vacancy left by the untimely death of B.C. Powell.

Two young golfers walked away with honors at the annual Labor Day golf tournament held at Marion Country Club over the weekend. Mike Wood edged Mark Rathert in the championship flight, with Wood getting the trophy and Rathert taking second place. They were followed by John Brose in third place, and Jack Webb in fourth.

“Our Heritage” has been selected as the theme of Old Settler’s Day – 1973, according to C.A. “Brad” Brandli, general chairman.

Class officers were elected at Florence Junior High School this week. Jandee Smith will be president of the seventh grade with Casey Case, vice president, Patti Fruechting, secretary, and Annette Nienstedt, treasurer. Deana Forsyth will be president of the eighth grade with Bev Bezdek, vice president, Paula Vinduska, secretary, and Molly Ferrell, treasurer. Ninth grade president is Gerald Shaft with Darwin Anderson, vice president, Carol Colburn, secretary, and Wava Ireland, treasurer.

The annual Morning Star School reunion was held Aug. 26 in the basement of the Marion Municipal Building. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Ora Hett and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hett.
