County commissioners directed Max Gough, Emergency Medical Service director, to prepare specification sheets for bid openings on 15 two-way radios, chargers, cases, microphones, and batteries. Gough and Jack Whisler submitted the estimates at Monday’s meeting. They will be reviewed June 12 at 10 a.m.

Marion High School class of 1978 participated in that institution’s 94th commencement exercise Tuesday evening in Marion Gymnasium. William Kroupa was designated valedictorian. Barbara Costello was salutatorian. Outstanding senior girl was Molly Ferrell while the outstanding senior boy award went to Randy Just.

This week’s selection for Ruth Meyer’s Personality Profile is Ezra Bernhardt, retired Marion businessman and former sheriff.

Marion High School representatives at Boys’ State May 28 through June 3 are Bill Hoch, Kevin Wilson, Doug Heerey, and Rick Richmond. Girls who will attend Girls’ State the following week are Margie Kerns, Pat Fruechting, and Donna Stovall.

The sixth annual Florence Grand Prix will be held this weekend, featuring motorcycle races, a demolition derby, and pancake feed. The motorcycle race, which attracts riders and spectators from several states, starts at 1 p.m. Sunday.
