A quiet business located in Marion will grow silent this week. Established two years ago by a group of local investors, Marion Research and Ecology, Ltd., is being liquidated; the worm has turned, downward. The worm business has not proven to be a bed of roses for a group of Marion Investors.

Theme of this year’s Old Settlers’ Day parade will be “Marion — A Pacemaker City.”

Debbie Hett, Marion High School junior, was named Marion-Florence FFA Chapter Sweetheart Friday night during halftime activities at the Marion-Moundridge football game. She was crowned by 1977 Chapter Sweetheart Donna Stovall. Hett was one of eight Marion High School juniors competing for the title.

Nelson Funk of Hillsboro, cabinet maker, farmer, and musician, and his wife, Mary Jean, are the subjects of this week’s “Personality Profile” by Ruth Meyer.

Tim McElfresh is pictured as he helps his grandmother, Mrs. Lawrence Winkley, display some large cucumbers grown in her garden on the Winkley farm. Tim and his mother, Mrs. Delbert McElfresh, live in Newton.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Longhofer will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Sept. 21.

Mary Horsch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Horsch, and Greg Nelsen, son of Rev. and Mrs. William Nelsen, are among 235 members of the University of Kansas Jayhawk Marching Band. Horsch carries a flag and Nelsen plays cymbals.
