Class photographs and other documents of Marion’s Hill School, dating from the turn of the century, have been donated to the Marion County Historical Museum by the family of Ruth Keller. Forrest Kelsey framed the photographs and he and Ted Winter, museum caretaker, hung them in the museum Sept. 21.

Mercil Wight, who has found time for two careers and has attended 66 Old Settlers’ Days in Marion, is the subject, along with her husband, Ollie Wight, of this week’s Personality Profile by special feature writer Ruth Meyer.

The Midian Shrine Temple “Legion of Honor” drill team will march in the Old Settlers’ Day parade Saturday. The team has won first place in the nation during championship competition the past two years.

Congressman Dan Glickman made announcement this week that The Elgin House, Marion apartment complex, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other buildings in Marion listed on the National Register of Historic Places include the Marion County Courthouse and Hill School. All three are prime examples of native limestone construction, that earned Marion the title of “stone city” in the 1880s.
