A birthday tea commemorating the Christian Church’s 100th year in Marion was celebrated Sunday afternoon with many church members as well as former members and out-of-town guests attending. The tea concluded a weekend of special celebration for members of the church.

This week’s Personality Profile features Marion plumber, A.J. Coe, who after being employed in various trades, learned the plumbing trade working with his stepfather, George Beaston.

The Pilsen parish will hold a special event for Monsignor Arthur Tonne this coming Sunday to acknowledge his worthy works and to celebrate his 25 years of spiritual service to the parishioners of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

Marion Warriors claimed sole possession of the Cottonwood Valley League football crown and vaulted into the class 3A playoffs with an error-free 20-7 win over Council Grove Friday night. The Warriors will move into regional playoff action Saturday after claiming an impressive 13-7 win over Hesston Tuesday night on the Swathers’ home field.

Charles “Bob” Druse of Marion was issued a cereal malt beverage license Monday at the regular meeting of the city commission. He will operate “The Bakery,” a tavern near First and Main.
