Buffalo have begun to roam the Flint Hills near Marion. Two Marion businessmen, Rusty Longhofer and Tom Hett, have purchased seven buffaloes—two young bulls, two cows and three calves—at an auction held Dec. 13 at the Maxwell Game Preserve.

Sylvester Winkley of rural Marion won the first prize in this year’s Marion County Record subscription contest. He will receive Victor electronic printing calculator. Second prize was won by Herman Bolte III, third by Howard Groening, and fourth by E.O. Williams.

Robin Summervill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mick Summervill, was one of many youngsters who received at treat from Santa Saturday. Kevin Marler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Marler, was a bit leery as he sat on Santa’s lap.

Mrs. Howard Collett, her daughter Collette Erickson, and their cousin Janice Bowers all graduated from Emporia Sate University Friday afternoon with BS degrees in education.

Ken Hoffman, a sergeant on the city police force, will replace Lyle Sanders as chief of police Jan. 1. Hoffman’s salary will be increased from $762 per month to $831 per month.
