Marion’s Art in the Park will be this Saturday in Central Park. It is sponsored by PRIDE and the Marion Chamber of Commerce, according to Dorothy Varenhorst, tourism committee chairman.

One hundred years ago a group of Catholics established a colony in the southeastern corner of Marion County and named it St. Francis City. Not long after that, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Co. renamed the town Burns because there already was a Kansas town of that name. The railroad renamed the town after railroad solicitor Ross Burns. The town will celebrate its centennial this Saturday and Sunday.

Five Marion High School FFA members spent last week in Washington, D. C., attending the National FFA Leadership Conference. Students included Ruth Fischer, Jim Padgett, Kim Schaffer, Brad Vannocker, and Ron Wineinger.

Butler County Community College will offer classes on a variety of subjects for adults this fall in Marion. Enrollment for classes will be the evening of Aug. 25.

Bud Pierce, owner of Pierce Oil and Fertilizer Service, has been honored for outstanding service in marketing petroleum products. Pierce has been associated with Conoco, Inc. since 1946 and has been jobber for the company in Marion since 1956.
