Vandals let the air out of 20 tires sometime over the weekend in the school bus parking lot at Marion High School. Don Bezdek, director of transportation, said some of the tires were slashed while valve stems were partially removed on others.
The giant Canada goose is showing signs of making a faster comeback than expected in ponds of the Flint Hills. Through a four-year project, the Kansas Fish and Game Commission has bred and transplanted the geese, which were nearing extinction.
A Florence native who is attending Bethel College will be taking a field trip to Central America during January. Kathryn Hayes will join a class on a 22-day journey to Belize and Guatemala to study tropical biology and primitive cultures. A 1983 MHS graduate, Hayes is majoring in biology and chemistry at the college in North Newton.
The major prize, a bicycle, went to Jesse Bowers in the final event Saturday of the annual Chamber of Commerce selection of toys. Other major winners were Keri Richmond, sled, and Andy Crofoot, wagon. All children present received at least one prize. Those whose names were not drawn received special toys constructed by Art Holmes and donated to the annual event.
Kim Buethe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Buethe of rural Lincolnville, a K-State Ambassador, is currently meeting with area high school students. Ambassadors are selected to meet with students and explain various programs in agriculture offered at KSU.
