A water leak that went unchecked since January has drained more than 12.5 million gallons from the city. Last Thursday, city crews delved into Main St. near Steve’s Dairy Palace and seven feet down found a leaky main that had several holes that might have been there since January. The holes were patched that day, but further exploration will be done looking for more flaws in the line.

Watercolor paintings, including local scenes, are on display at Farmers and Drovers National Bank. The 16 paintings are the work of Norton Goertz, Hillsboro artist.

This week’s Personality Profile is about Ella Winter, who has been serving lunch in Marion schools for the past 22 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Forsyth of Salina will conduct a Voyagers International tour of Europe this summer with several local students participating. Barbara Costello, Scott Miesse, and Bret O’Dell, all spring graduates of Marion High School, will be on the tour and singing in a large choir. They also will be members of a more select group directed by Ken Forsyth.

Two engineers representing the Santa Fe Railway met with the city council Monday afternoon to go over plans for construction and elevation of the railroad at the west side of town along the route of the dike and floodway now under construction by the Corps of Engineers.
