Old Settlers Day this year is not only another in a long series of homecomings. It’s also the dedication day of Marion’s flood protection project, which has been 20 years in the making. Parade theme is “Marion — A Bright, Dry Future!”

This week’s “Personality Profile” is Gordon Wolf, now retired after many years as owner and operator of Wolf’s Creamery.

Homecoming queen candidates are Julie Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hett; Carla Jost, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Jost; and Theresa Kroupa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kroupa. One of the girls will be crowned during halftime ceremonies Friday between Marion and Herington.

With no more mail to deliver, Glen “Shorty” Conyers is pictured as he leans on his mail truck for the last time. Conyers retired Friday after 30 years of service as mailman in the City of Marion.
