Oil activity is again on the increase in Marion County with at least 120 barrels of new production so far this month. Six new wells and a small gas well have been added.

A new office building, financed and built locally by the Marion Industrial Development Corporation, will be built on the west side of the first block of South Coble. Principal tenant of the building will be the Marion County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services office.

Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Ottensmeier hosted a dinner Sunday in honor of their son, Jimmie, who was confirmed that morning at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Ned Watts of Chanute announce the engagement of their daughter, Jean Marie, to Alex Stuchlik, son of Mrs. Charles Stuchlik, Lost Springs. An August wedding is planned.

Mrs. Norman Plenert hosted a surprise party July 5 in honor of her son Terry’s 10th birthday. Games were played after which refreshments were served to Tommy Thomas, Wayne Mott, Terry Conyers, Dean Ensey, David Gooding, Chuck McElwain, and Mike Schwendiman.

Trapshooting enthusiasts from over a wide area will gather at Marion this Sunday to take part in another of the popular ATA registered trap shoots.

Charles Kjellin, Marion farmer and school board member who was struck by lightning last week, is home from the hospital and making good progress.

Carl Elling, who has been in the automobile business in Marion for several years, has assumed the position of executive director for the Colorado and Oklahoma livestock markets associations.
