Five gallons of gasoline from Williams Home Oil Company will go to Bernadeen Broadstreet, adult safe driver, and Max Roberts, teenage safe driver, for the month of August. This is a continuing effort by the United Traffic Safety Commission of Marion to encourage safe driving.

Athol Vadakin of Enid, Okla., will be the featured speaker Sept. 28 at Marion’s annual Old Settlers Day. Vadakin is one of Marion’s “old timers” and fondly remembers the days of his youth spent here.

Ron Oelschlager of Marion, a sophomore at the University of Kansas, was advanced this week to the first eleven on Coach Jack Mitchell’s starting football lineup. He replaces Gale Sayers who was demoted at least temporarily to the Jay’s third squad.

Jon W. Thole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Thole, has accepted the position of vocational agriculture instructor in the Blue Mound High School. Thole is a 1957 graduate of Marion High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural education from Kansas State in 1962.

“My Fair Lady” was presented Sept. 11 for the program at the annual Community Guild banquet. The meal was served by St. Mark Altar Society. Diane Nickel portrayed the leading lady. Others in the cast were Margie Schwartz, Louise Wood, Lou Roberts, Vernita Nickel, and Juanita Helmer.
