Ten men who have held continuous membership in James William Miesse Post No. 22 of the American Legion since its inception in 1919 were honored Jan. 10 at an awards meeting. Those veterans are Cecil Bruner, Alex H. Case, F.L. Cavanah, John Ely, Jay E. Hargett, Alfred Kirchner, Earl L. Kreuter, Charles J. Mehl, M.K. Peterson and Ollie Wight.

A local Church of Christ group has started organization and meetings in Marion as of the first of the year. The services are being conducted by Eugene Fowler, evangelist, who comes to Marion each Sunday from McPherson where he is a full- time Church of Christ preacher.

Enrollment in the foreign language class for adults will be held Monday at Marion High School. The night classes will be organized and the language to be studied will be decided. The class is limited to 15, as that is the number of stations in the school’s new language laboratory.

Lillian Pierce, outgoing Register of Deeds, was honored Friday afternoon with a farewell party. Those present were the courthouse employees, welfare department employees, and the county commissioners.

Featured at the Cottonwood Valley Poultry Barbecue and Jamboree will be the selection of a district “Poultry Queen.” Last year’s district winner was Cynthia Batt of Florence.
