Marion’s Boy Scout troop has been organized and leaders registered. Registered scouts are Douglas Westerhaus, Ed Cook, Garry Klose, Bob Winchester, John Winchester, Paul Kirstein, Mike Regnier, Stanly Kerbs, Maurice Allen, Gene Hett, Mike Steinel, Daniel Steinel, Donald Boese, Chuck McElwain, Lance Alexander, Ronnie Cooper, Steven May, Kyle Diemart, Leslie Lunderman, Byran Alexander, Stanley May, Norman Alexander, Lonnie Stage, and Mike Schwendiman.
Merlin Suderman, Hillsboro eighth-grader, is winner of this year’s Marion County Spelling Bee. Seventh grader Tom Poppe of Lincolnville was runner-up. In third and fourth places were Willisa Black of Burns and Beth Faul of Hillsboro.
An unusual 5-generation picture was taken Sunday at St. Luke Hospital. The great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Fred Scharenberg, 90, is receiving treatment there for a broken hip suffered a few days earlier. Next in line is her son, Joe Scharenberg, then his daughter, Mrs. June Jost, then her daughter Gaila Falls of Lincoln, Neb., and Gaila’s 2-month-old son, William Jeffery.
Norma Sly and Nadean Kruse left via plane Thursday evening to spend Easter with Joyce Conyers and Glenda Razor in Laguna Beach, Calif. They returned to Marion Tuesday evening and report the weather in Kansas is much nicer than in California.
